When I first heard we get an early ultrasound to verify our due date, I was ecstatic! So excited. Then I heard what you I have to do to prepare. 32 oz of water in an hour! Are you kidding me? No one warns you of that... you don't see that part in the movies, only the "special moment" part when they first see their baby. I thought I was going to die. I mean, I use the washroom almost every hour anyways already. (exaggeration)
When I was younger, junior/senior in high school, I did that whole gallon of milk in an hour with a few friends and I started to get flashbacks of almost to victory, maybe a half an inch left on the bottom of the jug and...bam right to the toilet I went, no warning, gut aching, milk from the nose... it wasn't pretty. So I had to come up with a game plan.
I decided that I would not drink any water or juice all morning and then empty right before I downed one 16oz glass of water 45 minutes before the appointment, then right when I got in the car for my 30 minute drive I would drink another 8, and then another 8 right when I got to the hospital. But... 10 minutes after my first 16, I already had to go to the bathroom! My pants were getting tight, my leg started to shake and I knew I was in for a long hour. So I took off a few minutes early and aborted my plan of two consecutive 8 and drank slowly for the full 30 minute drive. I was afraid I'd fill up too fast!
I finally make it after hitting every pot hole and bump on the road to meet my lovely husband at the hospital. He gets out of the car, smiles, and tells me how bad he has to use the washroom. Glares appeared. Not funny.
Then the receptionist kindly reminded me that I have to have a full bladder... thanks tips.
But all that pain and agony went away as we started walking to the ultrasound room... and then I realized why the movies only show the "special moment" part. It truly is amazing to see your baby for the first time. Even if they are only 2 inches and just green and black on the screen. It's beyond all understanding of simply amazing. I could have sat there for another hour just staring.
But, it ended and I ran to the bathroom.
I introduce you to Baby D. 13 weeks. Due April 25th.
