Baby Shower Devotional

One thing that I found to be my favorite part of the shower from last Saturday was a devotional my older sister did. It was super sweet and meaningful. I asked her to send it on over so I could share with you.

Share why? 1. Because I loved it. 2. Devotionals are hard to come by! So hard... I was asked a year or so ago to do my cousin's Bridal shower devotion and I racked my brain for days trying to think of a good idea. And good ideas for me either come in the shower, a long drive, or a mindless stare into space while enjoying coffee. So for those few days I dreamed of showering, while driving with a coffee staring off into space...

sorry to the other drivers on the road.

Anyways here it is:

Of Such Is The KingdomA Baby Shower Devotional Julia Bettencourt

"...Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbidthem not: for of such is the kingdom of God." Mark 10:14

Shawl (or Baby Blanket).
Be sure to wrap your child up in the love of Jesus to keep him warm. Fill your home with love for each other. The more the love of Christ is shown in your home, the less there will be of bickering, fighting, and arguing, which is something no child needs to grow up with.

"Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. I John 4:7

Baby Blocks (wooden or legos).
Give your child the building blocks of character that he'll need throughout life. Teach him those traits that will develop him into a wonderful adult such as honesty, integrity, obedience, responsibility, and respect.

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

Baby Book (or photo album).
Remember you are making memories every day. Write down things you want to remember in a baby book or journal, take pictures, but most of all keep all of these moments with your children in your heart. You will never get that time back so make the most of it because your child is a wonderful gift from the Lord.

"Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: ." Psalm 127:3

Safeguards (outlet covers, childproof cupboard locks, etc.)
Help safeguard your child not only physically by all the things you can do to make them safe, but for eternity. Teach them the way of salvation. Take them to Sunday School and church. Have family devotions. Do all you can to ensure that they are shown the way of salvation, so that when they are ready for that decision, they'll be able to make it.

"And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." 2 Timothy 3:15

Baby Clothing Outfit
Clothe your child in prayer. Pray daily for them. Nothing will fit better, be more in season, or be more suitable for your child to be clothed in than your prayers. There's so much to pray about concerning our children--their salvation, their safety, their relationships with others, their virtue, their witness, their general welfare, and the list could go on and on.

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. " Philippians 4:6

Child Bible (or New Testament).
Make the Word of God prominent in your child's life. Help them from the time they are little with memory verses. Have Bible Sword drills with them. Quote verses with them and let them see that God's Word is important.

"And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. " Deuteronomy 6:7

Baby Rattle
From time to time just rattle yourself into remembering that you just can't do it alone. You need to rely on God to be a good parent. Get close to the Lord in your daily devotions and prayer life. Make Christ your strength.

"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Philippians 4:13

Rubber Duck.
Have fun parenting. Being a parent can sometimes be hard but enjoy your role as a mom. Thrust yourself wholeheartedly into it.

"And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." Colossians 3:17

So cute right? and so true. My sister even brought all of the items in and held them up as she read. Otherwise a cute idea would be to put them all in a basket and give to the mother.

Thanks again sisters for adding Christ and devotion into the shower. Love you both.
